Environmental Damage

These are the example of environmental damage :

This is one of water pollution.

People are cut down the trees. Wild animals like tigers, elephants, and other wild animals are losing their habits. And we are losing a lot of the maker of oxygen.

This is one of gas pollution from factories.

Now... What can we do to save our planet? To save earth? Plant a lot of trees can help us. One tree for one person for a better earth.

Why it Happens?

Environmental degradation is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources such as air, water and soil; the destruction ofecosystems and the extinction of wildlife. It is defined as any change or disturbance to the environment perceived to be deleterious or undesirable.
Environmental degradation is one of the Ten Threats officially cautioned by the High Level Threat Panel of the United Nations.
The United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction defines environmental degradation as “The reduction of the capacity of the environment to meet social and ecological objectives, and needs”.
Environmental degradation is of many types. When natural habitats are destroyed or natural resources are depleted, environment is degraded.
Environmental Change and Human Health, a special section of World Resources 1998-99 in this report describes how preventable illnesses and premature deaths are still occurring in very large numbers. If vast improvements are made in human health, millions of people will be living longer, healthier lives than ever before. In these poorest regions of the world an estimated 11 million children, or about one in five, will not live to see their fifth birthday, primarily because of environment-related diseases. Child mortality is larger than the combined populations of Norway and Switzerland, and mostly due to malaria, acute respiratory infections or diarrhea — illnesses that are largely preventable.

What is Environment?

In general, environment refers to the surroundings of an object, or the Natural environment, all living and non-living things that occur naturally on Earth.

The natural environment encompasses all living and non-living things occurring naturally on Earth or some region thereof. It is an environment that encompasses the interaction of all living species. The concept of the natural environment can be distinguished by components:
  • Complete ecological units that function as natural systems without massive human intervention, including all vegetation, microorganisms, soil, rocks, atmosphere and natural phenomena that occur within their boundaries.
  • Universal natural resources and physical phenomena that lack clear-cut boundaries, such as air, water, and climate, as well as energy, radiation, electric charge, and magnetism, not originating from human activity.
The natural environment is contrasted with the built environment, which comprises the areas and components that are strongly influenced by humans. A geographical area is regarded as a natural environment.
